Photo tips for a groom's biodata
- Use a recent, clear photo of just you, not a group picture or a cropped selfie.
- A plain or light background and daylight work best.
- A formal shirt, kurta or blazer looks neat; skip sunglasses and caps.
- Keep it from the chest up and use the editor's zoom and position controls to centre your face.
- One photo goes on the biodata; share a full-length photo separately if the family asks.

Expectation lines you can use
- "Looking for an educated, family-oriented girl with a positive outlook."
- "Working or non-working, as per her choice."
- "Preferably from Pune, Mumbai or nearby."
- "Should be comfortable living in a joint family."
- "Open to relocating to Bengaluru after marriage."
- "Caste no bar; similar values and education preferred."
- "Looking for a partner who enjoys travel and simple living."
Lines for working professionals and NRIs
Write the occupation as role, company and city: "Senior Software Engineer, Microsoft, Hyderabad". If you run a business, describe it in a few words: "Proprietor, Kulkarni Auto Parts (15 years, family business)". For NRI boys, add country and status: "Software Engineer, Amazon, Seattle, USA (H-1B, green card in process)", and say where you plan to settle. Families like to know this before the first call.
For a government job, write the post, department and class: "Assistant Engineer, PWD, Government of Maharashtra (Class I)". For a doctor, add the specialisation and hospital: "MD (Medicine), Consultant Physician, Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune".
Designs that suit a groom's biodata
Royal Blue and Maroon Sidebar put the photo and contact details in a coloured side panel for a modern, résumé-like look. Charcoal Formal is minimal and professional. For a traditional feel, Royal Blue Classic adds an ornate border and the Ganesha symbol.

Muslim boy biodata
Choose the Muslim preset in the Design tab to get the Bismillah header, a crescent symbol and a sect/maslak field, with the horoscope section removed. The Muslim marriage biodata page has the full format and tips.
A free Canva alternative for biodata
Canva has good general templates, but you have to set up every biodata label and keep the layout on one page yourself. Here the fields are ready, dropdowns handle height, rashi and nakshatra, Hindi and Marathi type in Devanagari, and the text auto-fits one A4 page. Free templates download with no watermark.
Make the biodata in five minutes
- Open the biodata maker and fill in the ready sections. Hide any field you don't want to show, such as complexion or blood group.
- Add your photo and position it in the frame.
- In the Design tab, choose a template, colour and top line.
- Download the PDF for printing, a JPG for WhatsApp or the Word file for later edits.
English, Hindi or Marathi?
Use English if you and the families you are talking to are comfortable with it; it is also the easiest for NRI relatives. If the biodata will go to elders in the native place, a Hindi or Marathi version is often appreciated. Make one in the Hindi biodata maker or the Marathi biodata maker; type in English and it turns into Devanagari as you type. Keeping both versions ready is common.
Sharing and printing
Send the PDF or JPG directly to the family or the bureau that asked for it. For printed copies, use A4 paper in colour at 100% scale; 100 GSM or thicker paper looks better. Keep the Word file, or reopen the biodata on the same device, for later changes.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Writing a long paragraph about yourself. Keep each line short and factual.
- Leaving out the birth time when the other family matches horoscopes.
- Using a casual or group photo. Choose a clear, recent photo of just you.
- Exaggerating income or job title. It will come up in conversation anyway.
Ready? Create your biodata and download it as PDF, JPG or Word.
