Sikh Marriage Biodata Format

Header line and symbol

Sikh biodatas usually begin with "Ik Onkar" or "|| Waheguru ||" and the khanda. Both lines are available in the editor, and you can type "Ik Onkar Satnam" or any Gurbani line you prefer. You can also upload a photo of Sri Harmandir Sahib or a family image in place of the khanda.

Sikh-specific fields

Gurdwara: the gurdwara your family is associated with, e.g. "Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Ludhiana".
Diet: vegetarian, non-vegetarian or eggetarian, from the diet list.
Clan / got (optional): some families mention it, for example Gill, Sandhu, Sidhu, Grewal or Bedi. Add it only if your family uses it.
Community (optional): Jat, Khatri, Arora, Ramgarhia, Saini and others.
Amritdhari / Keshdhari (optional): some families mention it; keep it to a word or two.
Mother tongue and native place: helpful, especially for families living outside Punjab or abroad.

Horoscope fields are not included.

How to set it up

Open the biodata maker and go to the Design tab.
Under Religion preset, choose Sikh.
The header changes to "Ik Onkar", the khanda symbol appears, the horoscope section is removed and a Community Details section with Gurdwara and Diet is added.
Use "Add field" for Got, Community or Amritdhari status.

Name and family details

Write your full name as used officially, for example "Harpreet Singh Gill" or "Simran Kaur Sandhu". Some families prefer to leave out the surname and write only Singh or Kaur; either is fine. In the family section, add parents' names with occupations, siblings with where they live (many Sikh families have relatives in Canada, the UK or Australia), the family's village or city in Punjab, and the mama or nanke family's town.

Expectation lines for a Sikh biodata

"Prefer a Keshdhari boy, settled in India or Canada."
"Vegetarian family preferred."
"Open to a match from any Sikh community with similar values."

Common mistakes to avoid

Writing the NRI status vaguely; say the country and visa or PR status clearly.
Leaving out the native village, which elders often ask about first.
Using an old photo; families expect a recent one.

Photo tips

For a boy, a clear photo with a neatly tied turban or patka and a plain background looks best. For a girl, a simple suit with a dupatta and natural light works well. Avoid group photos, sunglasses and heavy filters. In the editor, use zoom and position to centre the face in the frame. If the family prefers, skip the photo for the first round; the layout adapts on its own.

Suitable templates

Warm, festive colours suit a Sikh biodata. Mehndi Band and Kesari Band use a coloured banner at the top; the premium Jharokha Gold has a royal arch frame.

Tips

For a Sikh boy, a clear photo with a neatly tied turban looks best; for a girl, a simple suit and dupatta.
If the marriage will be an Anand Karaj and that matters to your family, you can mention it in the expectations line.
Families living abroad often forward the biodata to relatives in Punjab; a clean PDF prints well on any printer there.
NRI families: add the country and status in the occupation line, e.g. "Software Developer, Brampton, Canada (PR)".
Keep it to one page, following the marriage biodata format.

Frequently asked questions

What is written at the top of a Sikh biodata?+

Ik Onkar or Waheguru with the khanda is the most common. You can also type Ik Onkar Satnam or another line you prefer.

Should I mention my got or clan?+

It is optional. Some families include it and some prefer not to. Add it as a custom field only if it matters to your family.

Does a Sikh biodata need horoscope details?+

Usually not. The Sikh preset removes the horoscope section, but you can add any field you need.
